How to Remove Scratches from Your Laminate Flooring

Posted on August 4, 2023July 6, 2022 by Will Turner

Laminate flooring is considered to be one of the most durable types of flooring on the market. It can typically withstand fading from the sun, heavy traffic, and much more. Laminate flooring is more difficult to scratch than traditional wood floors, but light scratching can occur as can worse scratching from heavy objects being dragged across the surface. Here are a few tips to maximize the life of your laminate flooring.

To fix or repair light, minor scratches to your laminate floors, your best bet is to purchase a laminate floor repair kit. These can be purchased at your local home improvement store or online at several different web sites. These kits come in a variety of shades and colors, so you should bring a piece of the laminate flooring with you to select just the right kit. Using these kits is as easy as following the step-by-step instructions that come inside the package. Alternatively, there are also color coordinated pencils that can be purchased to fill in and mask scratches on laminate flooring. These are extremely easy to use and come in every color of laminate flooring available. If the pencil is applied to very minor scratches, it is very difficult to detect unless you get really close to the floor and look carefully. In case of extreme scratches on your laminate flooring, it may be necessary to replace the board altogether.

To prevent scratches to your laminate floors altogether, you can take a few simple steps. First, use mats at every entrance to your home that opens up to your laminate floors. Dirt should be wiped off of shoes before walking through the home so that it is not ground into the laminate flooring to cause surface scratching. Although it is not necessary to remove shoes before walking on laminate flooring, it is ideal. Second, whenever it becomes necessary to move large items across the laminate flooring, use mats, tarps, or other forms of protection. A furniture dolly can be used to move large furniture from one room to the next and if you are simply rearranging furniture, be sure to use furniture gliders to prevent scratches on the laminate flooring.

Remember, laminate flooring is one of the most durable and low-maintenance types of floor covering you can buy. However, since it is not damage-proof, it is important to care for it properly.
